The world’s population is moving to the cities. Cities in developing countries are growing especially fast. About one billion of the world´s 3,5 billion urban inhabitants are living in informal settlements, or slums. This number is expected to increase. What kind of access to the cities’ infrastructure do these people have? Do they have access to electricity, drinking water, sewage systems and transportation?

Habitat Norway wishes to address these and related issues in the seminar series «Infrastructure 2013». The sixth and final seminar will look at sanitation in growing cities and informal settlements. How does lack of adequate sanitary facilities affect people`s health and safety? Can poor sanitation be turned into innovative approaches and sustainable solutions?

Infrastructure 2013

Verdens befolkning urbaniseres. Av verdens 3,5 milliarder byboere bor mer enn én milliard i uformelle bosettinger, eller slum. Dette tallet er ventet å øke. Hva slags tilgang til nødvendig infrastruktur har disse innbyggerne? Har de strøm, drikkevann, sanitære løsninger, avfallssystemer og mulighet til å komme seg omkring? Habitat Norge tar opp disse og andre spørsmål knyttet til globale urbane utfordringer i seminarrekken ’Infrastructure 2013’.

Infrastructure 2013: Sanitation

Det sjette og siste seminaret i denne seminarserien vil fokusere på sanitære forhold i uformelle områder og slum. Hvordan påvirker mangelen på sanitære fasiliteter folks helse og sikkerhet? Kan dårlige sanitære systemer også resultere i innovative og bærekraftige løsninger? Dette med mer vil bli diskutert onsdag 20. november på Kulturhuset.
