Paradise Now is a movie by Hany Abu-Assad, about two young men from Gaza preparing for a suicide attack in Tel Aviv. This is the truly gripping story of two ordinary people in an extreme situation. The film gives a nuanced impression of the Israel/Palestine conflict and provides a frightening insight to everyday life in Gaza. The film was nominated for Oscar for best foreign movie and unanimosly praised by critics, fi lm festivals and audiences around the world.
Following the film screening , there will be an after talk about the film, relating the story to the topic of this year’s Habitat Conference – Urban battlegrounds and the effects of conflicts and warfare in cities. Participants in the after talk are Nadine Elali (Lebanon), journalist and reporter for NOW Lebanon, and Ayesha Wolasmal (Norway), freelance journalist, currently working at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies.
The after talk will be moderated by Habitat Norway board member Tonje Flatmark Sødal.
The evening event is a collaboration between Habitat Norway, The United Nations Association of Norway and The Films from the South Festival. Monday 1 October at Parkteateret. Doors open at 19.00, film starts at 20.00.
